September Mourning – Mandy’s Music Blog interview:

Mandy: What is the inspiration/meaning for your band name?

September Mourning is a transmedia project based on the story of the same name, which is a graphic novel published through Top Cow/ Image comics.  Music, themes and images all woven together.

Mandy: Who are your biggest influences for your music?

Riven and I write the majority of the music and our influences span from the 90's alt pop and metal through today's music.... You can find inspiration in the most unlikely of genres.

Mandy: What is your favorite song you've written and the meaning of the song?

Each song deals with a particular emotion that the lead character September is feeling when she collects a soul. I love all of our songs, it's hard to pick a single favorite.  But of the recent releases "Unholy" stands out, with its nod towards self-realization and empowerment - speaks to me a lot.

Mandy: What message would you like for your music to put out?

We would love for everyone to be familiar with the story and to get to know the characters.  There is a lot of personal growth that the lead women experience throughout the book. To embrace growth and change takes courage ... We hope to give our listeners  that!

Mandy: What artist/band would you like to collaborate with?

Halsey and Sza are high on the list.  Also would love to collaborate with Muse and Bring Me the Horizon.

Mandy: What is the craziest thing that has happened while you were on tour?

There hasn't been anything too wild, but I remember we were suppose to play a festival in Texas once and before it started there was a severe storm warning.  So all the artists were sequestered in their trailers waiting for the green light so that the festival would resume and it never did.  We spent a day with the band Starset doing shots – Ha!

Mandy: During the covid-19 quarantine/lockdown are you working on any special projects?

Besides gearing up for some new music releases, I am personally painting these portraits that I call "The Pixie Girls" and selling them online. I've had a lot of success with them and love doing them!   Our fans have been very supportive.

Mandy: What message would you like to say to your fans/future fans?

Please stay safe and healthy during this time. Use it as a time to reflect and determine what is important to you.... and listen to music.   We create to empower you and lift your spirits!
