In case you guys didn't know #Supmikecheck is another artist playing #blueridgerockfestival His music reminds me of a mix of #hollywoodundead and #lilpeep Please check out his music and pages and give him a like after reading the interview. 🤘🎶
Mandy: What is the inspiration/meaning for your artist name?
Supmikecheck: When I was in high school my friend and I were making joke rap and we came up with the nickname Mikecheck for me, being that my name is Mike and the Mic Check is a phrase during a soundcheck. I added the Sup to separate myself because there were a few other Mikecheck's on myspace at the time. People still get it wrong, they'll say SuperMikecheck one time on a show flyer it was even printed as SoupMikecheck like Campbell's Soup..The "Sup" just simply means "What's Up? Mikecheck" The name is a true blessing and a curse because if someone misnames me I know they never really listened to my music. So it helps me weed out my messages. It would be like calling AC/DC, AC/BC
Mandy: What style/genre do you consider your music to be?
Supmikecheck: My older music I look at as more experimental of me trying to find a sound that fits into place, But now I think I landed on what is known as "Sad Rap" or "Emo Rap". Basically Im making instrumentals with live instruments, I play electric guitar on all my songs and then the vocals are a mix of rap and rock. Ive been compared to Linkin Park and Hollywood Undead, but a lot of artists do things like this now, genres are kind of extinct. Lil Peep was a big inspiration to me. My lyrical themes are real life. I don't write about cars, money and drugs. I genuinely write about heartbreak, the past, and trying to find hope when everything is against you.
Mandy: Who are your biggest influences for your music?
Supmikecheck: Blink-182 is my favorite band that got me into music. Followed by Travis Mills who used to go by T-Mills, I saw him rapping at Warped Tour when I was younger and he bridged a gap from rap and rock, Its like alternative rap. I've played shows with rock bands, even metal bands and those guys are always nicer and more fun to hang out with than rappers. Rappers are very competitive.
Mandy: What is your favorite song you've written and the meaning of the song?
Supmikecheck: On my album You Never Really Cared theres a lot of deep songs but the track "Never Be" (Featuring AJ Perdomo of The Dangerous Summer) is lyrically my favorite. I wrote it about feeling not good enough for a certain girl. As I listened to the demo over and over again I began finding new meanings to the chorus, that I'm not good enough for my boss at my side job at the time, not good enough for my family. It's just really powerful and was meant for someone to hear it and feel like if they are going through what I'm going through than they aren't alone. You see, thats always how I found my comfort, I used to get upset when I had an emotion and felt like I was the only one in the world going through it but when Id hear someone else going through it whether its in a song, it's always a breath of fresh air, it makes you feel stronger.
Mandy: What message would you like for your music to put out?
Supmikecheck: I just want to keep making songs that people can cling to for real life emotions and scenarios. I have a song about being led on by someone you like called "So Long" (Feat Andy Thornton of Flight 409) and although I hope it doesn't happen to you Its a song you can listen to when you're feeling led on. There are endless topics and emotions to cover. I have an unreleased demo right now and the theme is worrying about being cheated on almost so much that it ruins the joy of what you have.
Mandy: What artist/band would you like to collaborate with?
Supmikecheck: I'm always searching, mostly for bands I grew up listening to as a teen. My features are very genuine. They're artist I like, Id never target someone for fame or for the wrong reasons. I guess a dream collab would be Blink-182 because they're my favorite band, but I do like being realistic lol. A fan told me to collab with Post Malone, as if he's like easy to get in contact with. They have no idea lol.
Mandy: During the covid-19 quarantine/lockdown are you working on any special projects, and how does it feel to be playing blue ridge rock festival with so many amazing bands?
Supmikecheck: Honestly, I've been bad Ive been playing alot of Animal Crossing and just resting my body up. I have been working out and trying to better myself but I been super sad about concerts and even my own events getting cancelled this month and next month that I just been hanging out. I have demos for my next music release that I'd like to work on, I just need to get over my pity party and go at it, but I do work on songs here and there. As for Blue Ridge im super excited to play that festival. I'm sharing the stage with some of my favorite bands in the world. It'll be a good time to give that concert 110% its what music fans deserve after being stuck inside for so long.
Mandy: What message would you like to say to your fans/future fans?
